Bolton Wanderers fans angered by late postponement

Supporters of Bolton Wanderers have criticised Arsenal for calling off their English Premier League fixture just hours before kick-off yesterday (January 6th).

The match was officially postponed midway through the afternoon after conditions were deemed unsafe in and around the Emirates Stadium, but fans of the north-west side believe the decision should have been made much earlier.

Spokesperson for the Bolton Wanderers Supporters' Association David Blackburn told the Times that he was "angry" about the late call, as many fans were arriving in north London when they heard the news.

"Do they not realise how far fans would have to travel to get there? The weather forecast has been known for many days now," he said.

However, an Arsenal spokesperson claimed that the club were unable to postpone the game any earlier because there was just a "light dusting" of snow on the playing surface, with weather conditions worsening rapidly in the afternoon.

Heavy snow and freezing temperatures have played havoc with the fixture list in recent days and caused the postponement of both Carling Cup semi-final first leg matches earlier this week.
