A team of Liverpool supporters will take on their Everton counterparts in a bid to stage the world's longest ever football match, it has emerged.
With Liverpool's Jamie Carragher and Leighton Baines of Everton managing the two sides, the fans hope to break the world record by playing five-a-side for more than 31 hours, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Several charities are set to benefit from the record bid, which was launched by Liverpool supporters Shaun Moran and Michael McMillan.
Speaking at the official launch of the event yesterday (January 3rd), Carragher told the newspaper: "To get both Everton and Liverpool involved will be great and it will bring the city together."
Baines added: "The most important thing is the charities which will benefit, but it will be competitive."
The game is due to begin on Saturday March 27th, with training sessions getting underway this month.
Charities such as the 23 Foundation, The Everton Foundation and Radio City's Cash For Kids will receive a proportion of the money raised.
Named after his Liverpool shirt number, the 23 Foundation was set up by Carragher to support young people in Merseyside communities.
