Cardiff City 'trading as normal'

Cardiff City have dismissed reports of financial uncertainty at the club by claiming that they are conducting business as normal.

An article published by the News of the World on Sunday (January 3rd) suggested that the Championship outfit are close to administration, with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) demanding payment of a £2.7 million tax bill.

However, chairman Peter Ridsdale insisted in a statement on the club's official website that there is no cause for concern.

He made no mention of the prospect a fresh winding-up order over the HMRC debt, but claimed that the club will be seeking legal advice due to the "damaging contents" of the newspaper article.

"We will not have any financial issues that will affect the ability of the club to continue to trade as normal in all aspects of its business," Ridsdale said.

The club had a winding-up order dismissed by the High Court last month after making an arrangement with HMRC over unpaid debts.

Dave Jones' side will face Bristol City in a rearranged tie at Ashton Gate on Tuesday January 12th after their FA Cup third-round clash was postponed due to a frozen pitch on Saturday.
