Wigan Athletic promise 'major effort' to avoid postponement

Wigan Athletic have hired a snow plough to clear parking and pedestrian areas around the DW Stadium before their Boxing Day clash with Blackburn Rovers.

The English Premier League club's game against Bolton Wanderers on Monday night (December 21st) was postponed due to hazardous conditions around the ground.

According to the club's official website, the Latics have now launched a major effort to ensure that their next match goes ahead, spending a "five-figure sum" on equipment and materials.

"We are doing everything in our power to try and keep the game played on Saturday," said Wigan Athletic chief executive Brenda Spencer.

"There could be a slight thaw before the weekend, but we can't afford to leave anything to chance."

Last weekend, Wycombe Wanderers managed to avoid the postponement of their League One fixture with Oldham Athletic after asking fans to help clear snow from the pitch and surrounding areas at Adams Park.
