Celtic's capture of South Korean star Ki Sung-Yong is set to boost the profile of the Scottish game among Asian football fans.

This is according to the Glasgow club's chief executive Peter Lawwell, who said that the 20-year-old's arrival at Parkhead was a positive event amid "difficult economic times for Scottish football".

Ki is set to join Celtic on a four-year deal from FC Seoul in the new year and could make his debut in the Old Firm clash on Sunday January 3rd.

Lawwell commented: "In signing Ki, we are sure we will welcome a whole new audience to Celtic.

"We also welcome a new audience to Scottish football, something which we hope will positively raise the profile of the Scottish Premier League."

Ki was recently named Asia's young player of the year and has already won 18 caps for South Korea, scoring four goals.

He rose to stardom in the FC Seoul midfield alongside Lee Chung-Yong, who signed for Bolton Wanderers earlier this year.
