Wolverhampton Wanderers have been contacted by the English Premier League after manager Mick McCarthy made ten changes to his side for the game against Manchester United last night (December 15th).

Supporters spokesperson Arthur Williams told BBC Sport that McCarthy's selection was "grossly disrespectful" after 3,000 travelling fans watched an unfamiliar line-up lose 3-0 at Old Trafford.

"The fans sung 'We want our money back' and that's understandable," he said.

A statement from the English Premier League confirmed that representatives had written to the club to "request their observations in relation to the team fielded" against the domestic champions.

League rules state that all clubs must select a full-strength team for every match.

Goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann was the only player who kept his place for the fixture following Wolverhampton Wanderers' 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

McCarthy's side are currently 18th in the table and play Burnley at home on Sunday.
