Macclesfield Town make plans for new ground

Macclesfield Town have unveiled their "vision" for a new 7,000-seater stadium to replace the Moss Rose.

The League Two outfit believe that their current ground, which was built in 1891, "lacks the amenities" required for the club to fulfil its potential.

According to a statement on the club website, Macclesfield Town recently held discussions with representatives of Cheshire East Council and a prospective developer about building a new stadium.

Planned for completion in 2013, the ground would include an "arts and entertainment space" for the local community, as well as renewable power sources to reduce the club's carbon footprint.

Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, chairman Mike Rance explained: "What we have is a vision. It's further down the line but it's a real possibility."

He said that the new ground would be situated on "another site close to the town of Macclesfield".

The Silkmen are currently enjoying their 13th season in the Football League, having won promotion from the Conference in 1997.
