Rangers have confirmed that manager Walter Smith is set to work without a contract when his current deal ends in January.

Martin Bain, the Glasgow outfit's chief executive, made the announcement during the annual general meeting at Ibrox on Monday night (December 7th).

Assistant Ally McCoist and coach Kenny McDowall are also set to stay on at Rangers without contracts as Sir David Murray, the majority shareholder, continues to seek a buyer for the financially troubled club.

"We are lucky to have a management team who are all true Rangers supporters," Bain commented.

He said that the trio are willing to work without new deals to "protect the club from having a management team that new owners might not want".

Meanwhile, chairman Alastair Johnston was applauded by supporters at the meeting when he announced that the club would not consider selling the naming rights for Ibrox.

Johnston insisted that the name of the stadium is "non-negotiable", despite Rangers' debts now standing at £31 million.
