English Premier League clubs paid a collective £70 million to football agents during the last two transfer windows, new figures have revealed.

Data published by the league shows that Manchester City topped the table in terms of spending on agents' fees, shelling out nearly £12.9 million between October 2008 and September this year.

Meanwhile, Chelsea paid almost £9.6 million to agents, Liverpool's spending totalled £6.7 million and Tottenham Hotspur came in at £6.1 million.

The figures reveal that Burnley parted with the least amount of money to agents, spending just £468,398.

Clubs have agreed for the information to be published after November 30th each year as part of new Premier League regulations.

"We are pleased that, through these new requirements, clubs are bringing greater transparency to the domestic transfer market," an FA spokesperson commented.

The Football League has been publishing annual spending reports for its clubs since the move was voted through in 2003.
