A supporters group has said that it is "making progress" towards acquiring a seat on the board at Tranmere Rovers.

The Tranmere and Wirral Football Supporters Trust is aiming to buy a number of shares being made available to fans of the Birkenhead club, who currently sit at the bottom of League One.

Speaking at the trust's annual general meeting this week, chairman Ben Harrison said that his organisation could soon be the third largest shareholder at Tranmere Rovers, the Liverpool Daily Post reports.

"Our long-term aim is to win boardroom representation at Prenton Park and we are making progress towards that," he told the newspaper.

"The next target is to achieve a five per cent stake in the club."

Former Celtic boss John Barnes was sacked as manager of Tranmere Rovers last month after managing just two wins in 11 league games.

The club ended a run of four League One matches without a victory by beating Southend United 2-0 on Tuesday night (November 24th).
