Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin has urged Russian football supporters to show the same passion and commitment as fans of Liverpool.

In comments that are unlikely to go down well with supporters at the Emirates Stadium, the 28-year-old midfielder claimed that the Russian public should take lessons from the Anfield faithful.

"Our fans need to learn from the English football supporters and in particular from Liverpool fans," Arshavin said.

The former Zenit St Petersburg star will not be heading to South Africa for the FIFA World Cup next summer following Russia's 1-0 defeat to Slovenia in last night's (November 18th) qualifying playoff.

Zlatko Dedic scored to put Slovenia through on the away goals rule, with the first leg of the tie finishing 2-1 to Russia in Moscow on Saturday.

Chelsea's Yuri Zhirkov and Aleksandr Kerzhakov of Dynamo Moscow were sent off during the second-leg defeat, which has raised questions about former Stamford Bridge boss Guus Hiddink's future as Russia coach.
