Sting is backing the Newcastle United Supporters' Trust (NUST) in its bid to take control of the club from owner Mike Ashley.
According to the Sun, the Wallsend-born singer supports the campaign and recently voiced his displeasure at Ashley's controversial plan to sell off the naming rights to St James' Park.
"I'm a traditionalist - it's St James' Park, always has been, always should be," Sting told the newspaper.
Earlier this week, the NUST formally launched its Yes We Can campaign, through which it is aiming to raise enough funds to buy the Championship club from Ashley outright.
Mark Jensen, a spokesperson for the trust, has described the scheme as "the ultimate protest".
He added: "The club is a fantastic investment if run properly. We aim to attract the type of investors who will seek to bring back the values of integrity and honesty."
Ashley took Newcastle United off the market last month after a proposed takeover from local businessman Barry Moat failed to materialise.
