Chelsea unveil lift-share scheme for football fans

Chelsea supporters could soon be sharing transport to matches under a new initiative launched by the English Premier League outfit.

The scheme was set up following a proposal by Chelsea's environmental sub-committee and aims to pair fans seeking lifts with those already travelling to games by car.

According to the club's official website, supporters can register their journey details for both home and away fixtures online and then arrange to share the travel costs with other fans.

"We would urge fans driving to games to see if they can offer any lifts to Blues in their area," said the sub-committee in a statement.

"It can save money [and] bring fans together, as well as saving the environment."

The scheme is designed to reduce travel expenses for supporters and cut down on the pollution and congestion generated by the west London club.

It has been established in collaboration with the UK car-sharing network liftshare, which also runs similar schemes for the BBC, Tesco, O2 and Virgin Atlantic.
