Gus Poyet has said that getting the fans on side will be his first job as Brighton & Hove Albion manager.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur star was unveiled as the new Seagulls boss on Tuesday (November 10th) and will take charge of his first game on Sunday, when the League One side head to Southampton.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sussex, Poyet commented: "You win the fans by winning games.

"It doesn't matter how nice you are, how good a person you are in football, unfortunately. Especially for the fans it's about after the games."

The 41-year-old Uruguayan arrives at the Withdean Stadium with Brighton & Hove Albion fifth from bottom in League One, having won just three of their first 15 matches.

Poyet has worked as an assistant coach at Swindon Town, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur but the Brighton job represents the 41-year-old's first managerial role.

Mauricio Taricco, Poyet's former team-mate at White Hart Lane, has been appointed as his assistant.
