Sportswear giant Adidas has dismissed recent speculation that it could acquire the naming rights to the home of Newcastle United.
The firm already has a deal as the Magpies' kit supplier and was linked with a potential bid for the naming rights at St James' Park after owner Mike Ashley controversially announced plans to rebrand the stadium last week.
However, Adidas distanced itself from any rights deal in a statement issued on Monday (November 2nd).
"Adidas can confirm that it has not been offered the naming rights to the stadium and would not wish to take the rights if they were offered," the company said.
The German-based manufacturer added that it "remains committed to our on-pitch partnership with the club".
Meanwhile David Clelland, MP for Tyne Bridge, has tabled a House of Commons motion in opposition to Ashley's plans to rename St James' Park, the BBC reports.
He said that the stadium's identity is an "integral part" of the city, as well as symbolising the loyalty of Newcastle United fans.
