Steve Lansdown, chairman of Bristol City, has urged planning officials to give his club's proposal for a new stadium the green light.

The city council's planning committee will meet on Wednesday (November 4th) to make a decision on the development, which features a new 30,000-seater arena at Ashton Vale.

Speaking to the Championship club's official website, Lansdown claimed that the benefits of the £65 million stadium will extend beyond Bristol City.

"It will be a new regional stadium that the whole of Bristol and the west of England can be proud of," he said.

"As a Bristolian, I am proud of my city and I believe that a facility like this is long overdue."

The stadium plan has caused controversy among Bristol residents due to the club's decision to sell its current home at Ashton Gate to a supermarket chain for redevelopment.

Last week, the Robins agreed a deal with Sainsbury's for the site after Tesco pulled out of negotiations.
