Danny Mills is planning to complete next year's inaugural Brighton Marathon in a wheelchair to raise money for two disability charities.

After the former Leeds United and Manchester City defender's son Archie died from spina bifida during birth six years ago, he became a patron and vice-president of the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ASBAH).

The 32-year-old will also be generating cash for the National Association of Disabled Supporters by participating in the race, which takes place in the south coast city on April 18th 2010.

"I've always wanted to do the marathon and I also had this idea that when my football career was over I would do something odd, bizarre and unique to raise awareness for ASBAH," Mills told Mirror Football.

Mills started his career with hometown club Norwich City before moving to Charlton Athletic and on to Elland Road.

He also won 19 caps for England before announcing his retirement from football due to a persistent knee injury in August this year.
