Tottenham Hotspur reveal plans for new stadium

Plans for Tottenham Hotspur's new 56,250-capacity stadium have been submitted to Haringey Council.

The development in north London will feature a single-tier stand to maximise crowd atmosphere and could potentially be used as a venue for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Situated on land adjacent to White Hart Lane, the stadium project also includes plans for new homes, a club museum, a hotel and a supermarket.

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy described the planning application as "a hugely important step for the club".

He added: "We have designed what will be a vibrant area 365 days a year and not a stadium with dead space surrounding it."

Meanwhile, a club spokesperson told BBC Sport that the English Premier League outfit hope to start using the new ground by 2012, although it is unlikely to be completed until the following year.

Tottenham Hotspur have been playing their home games at White Hart Lane, which has a capacity of just over 36,000, since 1899.
