The Rangers Supporters' Trust has said that fans of the Scottish Premier League club should be more involved in handling its affairs.
Great uncertainty currently surrounds the football finance situation at Ibrox, with Rangers manager Walter Smith revealing at the weekend that the Glasgow outfit is now effectively being run by HBOS.
Rangers have debts of approximately £30 million and owner Sir David Murray has been trying to find a new buyer for the club for the last two years without success.
Commenting on the recent developments, spokesperson for the Rangers Supporters' Trust Stephen Smith told the Sun that he would like the club to become "a supporter-owned organisation".
He added: "There's a successful model out there, the Barcelona model."
Barcelona is owned and run by its 102,000 shareholder members, who elect a president and a board of directors every four years to manage the club.
Other clubs in the Spanish top flight, such as Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, are also mutual organisations that hold elections allowing members to vote on key issues.
