A statue of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor will be erected at Pride Park in honour of Derby County's legendary management team.

Plans to create the tribute, which was initially suggested by fans of the club, have now been officially approved by the Championship outfit.

The Clough and Taylor families have also given their backing to the statue, which will depict the two men holding the league championship trophy aloft after their triumph with Derby County in 1972.

"Brian Clough and Peter Taylor rose to the summit of English and European football," said John Vicars, the club's vice-president of operations.

"This monument will recognise the unique partnership they enjoyed and one that football supporters cherish and adore."

The duo arrived in Derby from Hartlepool United in 1967, winning promotion to the first division in 1969 and claiming the league title in 1972, before a run to the semi-finals of the European Cup the following year.

Clough, who was famed for his man-management skills and charisma while Taylor had a talent for spotting and developing gifted players, once said of his assistant: "I am the shop window and he is the goods in the back."
