Bristol City chairman calls for stadium support

Steve Lansdown has asked fans of Bristol City to get behind the club's plans to build a new stadium.

The Championship side's chairman said the proposed move to a new ground known as Ashton Vale is a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" that needs the backing of the supporters to become reality.

Local planning officers are currently considering the club's development plans and a final decision is set to be announced on November 4th.

"We believe passionately that this scheme will benefit Bristol and that it has to happen if our football club is going to move on and progress to the next level," Lansdown told the Bristol City website.

He urged supporters who have not yet done so to make "their opinions known and their voices heard" before next month.

The new stadium plan involves Bristol City selling the site of their existing ground, Ashton Gate, to supermarket giant Tesco and building a new 40,000-capacity arena nearby.

However, some local residents have objected to the prospect of a new Tesco store in Bristol's Bedminster area, claiming that it will increase traffic congestion and harm local businesses.
