Next summer's FIFA World Cup is expected to have a major impact on the UK travel industry, a new report has revealed.
Although thousands of England fans are expected to head to South Africa for the tournament, industry publication Travel Trade Gazette predicts that many more supporters will put off holidays elsewhere to watch the action at home.
The report, which reveals that the average cost of a holiday rose by £26 to reach £564 this year, indicates that next summer could be another difficult period for travel operators.
Taking place from June 11th to July 11th, the 2010 FIFA World Cup will represent the first time the tournament has been hosted by an African nation.
England qualified for the finals as winners of Group Six with two games to spare following the 5-1 victory over Croatia last month.
Fabio Capello's side play Ukraine in Dnipro on Saturday (October 10th), before the final match of the qualifying campaign against Belarus at Wembley next Wednesday.
