Blackburn Rovers will play Accrington Stanley in a special friendly match to raise money for the cash-strapped League Two club next week.
The two Lancashire sides are set to meet at the Crown Ground next Tuesday night (October 13th) as part of the Save Our Stanley campaign, which was set up after the club were ordered to pay an outstanding tax bill of £308,000 by October 27th.
Accrington Stanley chief executive Rob Heys said that visiting manager Sam Allardyce has agreed to field a strong team for the match, although several Blackburn Rovers players will be away on international duty.
"People often think being so close to two Premier League sides is a problem for us but our neighbours have been superb in their support for Accrington Stanley at this difficult time," Heys commented.
Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph: "It's at times like this that the football fraternity comes together."
Tickets for the game will cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
The Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie between Accrington Stanley and Shrewsbury Town has been rearranged for October 20th after this week's fixture was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
