Ashley 'ready to sell Newcastle United'

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley could offload the club to Barry Moat by the end of the week, it has been claimed.

With former manager Kevin Keegan winning £2 million in his constructive dismissal case against the club last week, reports from Tyneside suggest that the local businessman is finally poised to complete his buyout.

According to BBC Sport, the settlement with Keegan has cleared the way for Ashley to agree a sale with Moat or one of the other parties believed to be interested in the Magpies.

Keegan was awarded the damages after successfully arguing that Newcastle United had breached a term of his contract relating to player transfers during his second spell as manager at St James' Park.

He claimed that he was told to sign Valencia midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez purely on the basis of YouTube clips of the Uruguayan, who joined the north-east club on loan last year.

Keegan was eight months into his second period at the Newcastle United helm when he resigned on September 4th 2008.
