Swindon Town are taking major steps towards confirming their plans for the redevelopment of the County Ground, club chairman Andrew Fitton has claimed.
He told the Swindon Advertiser that the club will look to appoint advisers and planning consultants for the project next month following productive discussions with the local council.
Fitton said he is convinced the League One club should remain at their current home rather than building a new football stadium elsewhere.
He told the newspaper: "We've looked at several options but I like the idea of staying at the County Ground. I am a big fan of city centre football.
"Without wanting to sound too emotional, in reality the County Ground is the spiritual home of the club."
Fitton also revealed that the redevelopment work is likely to begin in 2011 and said the new capacity at the County Ground will be "no less than 20,000".
The County Ground currently holds just under 15,000 people and has been Swindon Town's home since 1896.
