Scottish football fans 'disappointed' by standing area decision

A group of Scottish football fans have received a setback in their bid to lift the ban on standing areas in Scottish Premier League stadiums.

The Pars Supporters Trust recently submitted a petition to the Scottish Parliament over the issue, claiming that clubs who are forced to upgrade their facilities for promotion are unfairly penalised by the rule, Deadline Scotland reports.

However, the Public Petitions Committee has since opted to close the petition after consulting various bodies including the Scottish Premier League, the Scottish Police Federation and the Health and Safety Executive.

"The responses received have been extremely disappointing due to the apparent lack of understanding of what we are actually asking for," said Stephen Taylor, a spokesperson for the Pars Supporters Trust.

He added: "The Scottish Football Association have brushed the matter aside referring the matter to the Scottish Premier League, as it is their rule we are questioning."

The current Scottish Premier League rules state that stadiums must have a minimum capacity of 6,000 seats, with no standing areas permitted.
