Venue change decision delayed by Welsh FA

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has decided to wait until next year before making its decision over the venues for future international matches.

According to BBC Sport, the FAW will aim to make an announcement after the qualification draw for the 2012 UEFA European Championships takes place in Poland on February 7th.

Wales currently play all their international qualifying matches at the Millennium Stadium, but the FAW is considering alternative venues such as the new Cardiff City Stadium, which has a capacity of 26,500.

Swansea City's Liberty Stadium could also be used to host international fixtures, which have failed to attract large crowds to the Millennium Stadium in recent years.

The national stadium in Cardiff has a capacity of 74,500, but the recent FIFA World Cup qualifier between Wales and Russia attracted just 14,505 supporters.

Welsh goalkeeping legend Neville Southall recently backed the venue change plans, claiming that using smaller stadiums for internationals would be a "sensible" move.
