Sir Bobby Robson's memorial service will be screened live at St James' Park later this month, Newcastle United have confirmed.

The event is due to take place at Durham Cathedral on September 21st, when close friends, family members and football personalities will gather to pay tribute to the former England, Ipswich Town and Newcastle United manager.

Football fans in the north-east will also get the chance to honour Sir Bobby, as a large screen will be erected on the pitch at St James' Park to show the event.

Steve Wraith, editor of the Newcastle United fanzine Players' Inc, told the Journal that he was pleased the club had decided to go ahead with the broadcast.

He said: "It's only right that Newcastle fans should have the same right to pay their respects. Sir Bobby is one of ours, he is special to the area."

The service, which is expected to be attended by the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Fabio Capello and Alan Shearer, will also be screened live in Ipswich town centre.

Sir Bobby died on July 31st at the age of 76 following a long battle with cancer.
