Football fans attending the Scottish Premier League match between Heart of Midlothian and Rangers raised over £5,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity on Sunday August 23rd.

The money was donated in memory of Ewan Williamson, a 35-year-old Edinburgh firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty last month, the Scotsman newspaper reports.

A spokesperson for Heart of Midlothian was full of praise for the goodwill and generosity displayed by both sets of football fans watching the match at Tynecastle.

"Everyone at Tynecastle would like to extend our warmest thanks to supporters of both teams on Sunday for the remarkable generosity shown in memory of Ewan, a local lad who ultimately gave his life for others," the spokesperson told the newspaper.

"It is very clear that nobody at Tynecastle - or indeed Ibrox - will forget Ewan and that's how it should be."

Mr Williamson died while tackling a blaze at the Balmoral Bar, a public house located within walking distance of the Heart of Midlothian stadium.

Rangers won the game in question 2-1 thanks to an injury-time penalty from Kris Boyd.
