A football fan is attempting to raise money for charity by dribbling a football 26 miles to the home ground of West Ham United, the Basildon Echo reports.

Father-of-three Chris Rowe is to set off from Billericay in Essex before arriving at Upton Park ahead of the clash with Liverpool on Saturday September 19th.

Companies are being given the opportunity to sponsor a patch on the football used on the journey, with some of the money raised going to the Richard House children's hospice in Beckton, east London.

Mr Rowe told the publication: "I'm sure I'll get a few funny looks along the way as people stop to look at the idiot trying to keep the ball on the pavement."

Once arriving at the ground the 40-year-old will hand the ball over to West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble.

He is due to begin his journey at 06:00 BST, with the English Premier League game scheduled for a 17:30 kick-off.

Noble made his debut for West Ham United's senior team at the age of 17, during a League Cup game against Southend United in August 2004.
