Chelsea's first-team squad were met with boos during a special open training session at Stamford Bridge yesterday (August 25th).

According to the Independent, some 8,000 football fans travelled to the stadium to see Chelsea stars such as captain John Terry, Frank Lampard and the returning Joe Cole put through their paces.

However, the atmosphere within the ground turned slightly sour after an announcer revealed that the players would not be signing autographs due to "security concerns".

With many young football fans left disappointed, a pep talk from Terry ahead of Chelsea's English Premier League clash with Burnley on Saturday "was not enough to reverse the damage", the newspaper reports.

However, the assembled supporters did show support for Cole, who is nearing a comeback after rupturing cruciate ligaments in January.

Other Chelsea players taking part in the open training session included Yuri Zhirkov, the club's £18 million summer signing from CSKA Moscow.

Chelsea have made an impressive start to the English Premier League season, beating Hull City, Sunderland and Fulham in their first three games.
