Visitors to Morecambe FC are treated to the best pies out of all 92 English league clubs, a new in-depth study has found.
Researching his own book on the traditional food of football, Bolton Wanderers fan and writer Tom Dickinson spent the whole of last season travelling the length and breadth of the country, watching football and eating pies.
According to his findings, which have been published in the Times, the best offerings are to be had in the lower leagues, with only Wigan Athletic's pies making the top five.
Topping the chart, Morecambe's Christie Park offers fans "the daddy of all pie-makers, Potts' Pies [which] provide the perfect mix of piping-hot meaty goodness and crisp pastry".
Other winners include Exeter, whose St James' Park boasts a pizza takeaway alongside the usual pie stands, and Norwich City, with Carrow Road boasting "Delia Smith-inspired grub baked with love".
At the other end of the spectrum, Mr Dickinson found the likes of Leyton Orient and Walsall to offer some of the worst pies, while, unsurprisingly, Premier League teams tended to charge over-the-odds for their mid-match snacks.
Morecambe FC are due to move to a new stadium in the Westgate area of the town, with Christie Park set to make way for a new supermarket within the next couple of years.
