Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has indicated that the club will not become bankrupt while he is in charge and Randy Lerner is chairman.
Speaking to BBC West Midlands, the Northern Irishman indicated that the English Premier League outfit is being run as a "type of business" and will not be drawn into making big-money signings in a rush to challenge for trophies.
O'Neill has already brought in Stewart Downing, Fabian Delph, Habib Beye and Andy Marshall in the close season, but reports have suggested that more signings are needed to bolster the squad for the new season.
However, despite clubs such as Manchester City opting to spend large amounts of football finance as they look to break into the top four, O'Neill has confirmed "that is not how we are running this particular football club".
He added: "I'm quite sure people could find lots of things we could attempt to do a bit better, but overall, we're running it as a type of business.
"I do not want to be presiding over a bankrupt Aston Villa Football Club."
Aston Villa begin their English Premier League campaign at home to Wigan Athletic tomorrow before heading to Austria to play Rapid Vienna in the UEFA Europa League qualifying round.
