The home of Aston Villa has been withdrawn as a possible venue for hosting football matches during the 2012 Olympic Games because of ongoing construction plans.
Some six stadiums were already set to be hosting venues for the games, with Villa Park thought to be one of those being considered by organisers.
It had been hoped by Aston Villa that they could increase the capacity of their stadium by 8,000 seats before the start of the 2012 Olympic Games, but it is not guaranteed that this will happen.
A statement by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (Locog) revealed: "The club is considering plans for major construction work over the next few years. Whilst these plans are developed, the club is unable to commit fully to hosting matches.
"Locog is grateful to Aston Villa for its support to date and is continuing with its planning in order to deliver a first-class Olympic football tournament."
Meanwhile, Manchester United's Old Trafford and St James' Park, the home of Newcastle United, are among the other stadiums set to host games during the preliminary round of the tournament.
Villa Park has been the home of Aston Villa since 1897 and was the first English ground to stage international fixtures in three different centuries.
