Chester City have been granted permission to begin their upcoming Blue Square Premier campaign but will have to do so under a 25-point penalty.
After going into voluntary administration following their relegation from League Two in May, the club knew that they would be docked ten points for the new season.
However, a promotion challenge has been made almost impossible following revelations in an interim statement from the Football Conference.
It has not been revealed why Chester City have picked up their increased punishment, but at least the club will be able to kick-off their season away at Grays Athletic this weekend.
The statement read: "To ease concerns being expressed by those member clubs who are scheduled to play them in the forthcoming weeks, it was felt prudent to release this interim statement at this time.
"A full detailed statement relating to the conditions being applied will be released when the matter is finalised but it can be officially confirmed that the club will commence with a deduction of 25 points as one of those conditions."
Chester City play their home games at the Deva Stadium and were relegated after finishing last season in 23rd position in League Two.
