Hastings United unsure of future after stadium rejection

The future of Hastings United has been put at risk after plans for a new football stadium were cancelled by the local council, the Bexhill Observer reports.

Hastings Borough Council has written a letter to the club's chairman Dave Walters rejecting the plans, despite initially saying it would do all it could to help.

Walters and his colleagues have spent the best part of the last two years drawing up the state-of-the-art plans which, as well as a football pitch, included an athletics track and training facilities.

The chairman told the publication: "In the short term we will keep patching things up as best we can but there will eventually come a time when playing at the Pilot Field will no longer be possible.

"When that happens there is the strong possibility that Hastings could find itself without a senior football club."

Hastings United began life in 1894 under the name Rock-a-Nore and currently ply their trade in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

The club also reached the first round proper of the FA Cup during the 2002/03 season.
