Manchester City wage bill edges past £100 million

Following a successful summer in the transfer market, the annual wage bill at Manchester City is to top £100 million, it has been suggested.

Mark Hughes has been busy trying to create a squad that can challenge the top four for English Premier League honours, with new recruits including Gareth Barry, Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez.

However, with former Aston Villa man Barry on £120,000 a week and Adebayor and Tevez becoming the club's big earners on £150,000 each week, the wage bill has spiralled to new heights.

Current forward Robinho remains the sole largest earner on £160,000 a week, while new signing from Arsenal Kolo Toure is another to exceed a salary of over £100,000 each week.

Meanwhile, the News of the World reports that the club's wages have doubled over the past two years, while owner Sheikh Mansour is set to splash around £0.5 billion on wages alone over the next four years.

Manchester City recently spent £15 million to bring Kolo Toure to Eastlands from Arsenal.
