Despite spending a large amount of money in the close season strengthening their squad, Manchester City are still a "small club", according to Sir Alex Ferguson.
Mark Hughes has spent heavily in recent weeks in preparation for the season ahead, with close to £100 million paid on players including Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor.
However, Manchester United manager Ferguson believes that wages offered to these players were one of the only reasons they made the move to the Eastlands outfit.
Speaking on his club's pre-season tour of Asia, Ferguson said: "It's City isn't it? They're a small club with a small mentality. All they can talk about is Manchester United; they can't get away from it.
"When someone offers you that kind of money, it is a big attraction. That is the reason they have gone there."
Meanwhile, Ferguson also recently indicated that he still sees Chelsea and Liverpool as his main competition in terms of winning the English Premier League this season.
Barry spent 12 years at Aston Villa before recently opting to join Manchester City in a £12 million deal.
