Three fans turn up to buy Newcastle United away shirt

Newcastle United would have been hoping for a strong turnout at the club shop for the release of their new away strip, but only three football fans queued outside to pick up their replica.

It is common practice that hundreds of fans usually line up outside to be among the first to wear the latest strips, but there were few supporters of the new yellow-striped shirt.

This was despite the Championship club knocking down the cost of the shirt from £40 to £32 in the week leading up to it hitting the shelves.

One of the three in the line was 18-year-old Stephen Watson, who said: "I don't even like the shirt but I'm a Newcastle United fan so I am still happy to buy it.

"Now I've actually got my hands on it though I think I might wear a jumper on top of it."

However, Everton may rival Newcastle United in terms of the worst new shirt with their latest offering being black and salmon pink.
