Season ticket sales at Newcastle United are close to 25,000 ahead of the upcoming campaign, according to the club, contrary to some reports.
It has been suggested that season ticket sales had significantly reduced following the club's relegation from the English Premier League to the Championship during their 2008/09 campaign.
However, a club statement has now put the record straight and a big crowd is expected when Newcastle United play their first home game of the season against Reading on August 15th.
The statement said: "The club can confirm that sales are now closing in on the 25,000 mark with uptake in the expanded family areas particularly strong.
"Interest is continuing to grow on a daily basis and with the new season still three weeks away we expect the number of season ticket holders to further increase."
The news may surprise many fans following the lack of activity that has taken place at St James' Park in the close season.
Mike Ashley is still the owner, no definite manager has been appointed and there has been little activity in the transfer market.
Newcastle United's St James' Park home has a total capacity of 52,387.
