Manchester United 'unaffected' by economic climate

Manchester United's continuation to seal strong football sponsorship deals and expand on the global stage means the economic downturn is having little impact on the club, it has been stated.

Teshin Nayani, a representative of the club, told Reuters that Manchester United are still witnessing strong results despite the current climate and the fact that they have sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

The strength of the club was shown on the current tour of Asia when thousands of supporters were on hand to greet the team as they arrived at their hotel in Malaysia.

Mr Nayani told the news provider: "On a normal business level Manchester United is in a very strong position and so far, unaffected by the downturn.

"Our operating profits are climbing and we continue to secure significant sponsorship deals. Our stadium is packed out and we have very good media revenues coming in."

Last month, Manchester United secured a record football sponsorship deal with American finance giant Aon Corp, which is worth £80 million over four seasons and will begin when the current deal with AIG expires in 2010.
