Frank Arnesen has taken on another role at Chelsea alongside his current positions as chief scout and director of youth.
The Dane has been appointed as the team's new sporting director, which will mean supporting Carlo Ancelotti in his position as manager.
His new position will begin with immediate effect and comes after he joined the club's board in May.
A statement on Chelsea's official website revealed: "He will continue with his roles relating to the reserves and academy.
"But he will also now take on responsibilities relating to the co-ordination of first-team activity and supporting the first-team manager."
The statement added that the club was looking for additional "senior" support for the main squad to help with long-term plans and business strategy.
Arnesen spent ten years as the director of football at PSV Eindhoven before being brought to Tottenham Hotspur in 2004 and then moving onto Chelsea a year later.
He has worked alongside Chelsea managers Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant and Luiz Felipe Scolari in the past.
