Charlton Athletic chairman Richard Murray has postponed a meeting with the club's supporters after lawyers advised him against the session due to a potential takeover.
Current speculation suggests that former chief executive Peter Varney is at the forefront of a group to take over the League One club in the coming weeks.
And because of this, Murray has been advised to cancel the question and answer session on the grounds that he may have to refuse to respond to questions on the matter.
He told the Charlton Athletic official website: "Our advisors have warned us it would not be appropriate to attend a public meeting.
"The current situation means that we would have been unable to answer or contribute to many of the likely main points of discussion, which would have been wholly unsatisfactory."
A similar meeting had to be postponed last year when the club received an offer from Dubai-based consortium Zabeel Investments, only for this bid to eventually be abandoned.
One of Charlton Athletic's biggest honours is their sole FA Cup victory in 1947.
