No extra time for Livingston to pay rent debts

Livingston will not be given any additional time to try to settle their rent debts with West Lothian Council, the Daily Record reports.

Chairman of the Scottish First Division side Angelo Massone has been given a deadline of next Wednesday to pay the £300,000 debt on the club's Almondvale stadium or risk administration and then potentially extinction.

Neil Rankine recently signalled an interest in helping the club financially, but indicated that he would need time to find a group of backers to help in the cause.

However, the council has insisted that it will not extend the time to pay the debt, meaning that Livingston could end up heading down the same route as Gretna if Rankine cannot quickly come up with a rescue package.

Don Paul, spokesman for the fan organisation Livi for Life Trust, told the publication: "I don't see how the club can be saved other than by administration.

"There are two options - administration or renegotiate with the council."

Livingston have been running for 14 years and if they were forced into administration it would be for the second time after a similar problem early in 2004.
