A new consortium has acquired a majority share of Plymouth Argyle, with chairman Paul Stapleton stepping down from his position.

His role has now been filled by former Manchester United chairman Sir Roy Gardner, who owns 13 per cent of the club with Keith Todd through their joint venture company KKC.

Meanwhile, Japanese businessman Yasuaki Kagami recently upped his stake from 20 per cent to 38 per cent, with the trio now holding a majority 51 per cent stake of the Championship side.

Shonan Management Corporation, a company owned by Kagami, made its first investment in Plymouth Argyle back in April last year.

Stapleton, who will now assume the role of vice-chairman, said: "I have been very lucky to have people around who have supported me on the board and the staff at the club as well.

"The fans have been very supportive to all of us and we thank them all for that. We have taken this club as far was we think we can and it is time to pass on the baton."

Paul Sturrock is the current manager of Plymouth Argyle, with the club playing their home games at Home Park.
