Southampton's financial problems continue

The financial problems at Southampton are continuing as a number of staff at the club are still awaiting their wages for June, it has been revealed.

According to the Southern Daily Echo, the staff are normally paid in the morning of the fourth Thursday of every month, but early today (June 25th) they were still awaiting payment.

However, administrator Mark Fry has revealed to the publication that a range of moves are being considered in an attempt to speed up the process.

These include trying to get Pinnacle to complete its takeover of the club or trying to sell some of their playing staff.

Pinnacle chief Tony Lynam revealed that no progress has currently been made regarding the disagreement with the Football League's decision to give the club a points penalty next season.

He told the publication: "The league are 'taking instructions' and will come back to me 'as soon as possible'. I hope ASAP is this morning as clearly wages etc need to be paid.

"This morning I am looking at a contingency plan in the event that no response is received from the league today.

"I also hope that we don't have to put a contingency plan in place - I just want to close the deal, and I am sure every member of staff is of the same opinion."

Southampton are being hit by the penalty after their parent company fell into administration in April.
