Stafford Rangers have made a desperate appeal to the club's supporters to provide finance in a bid to stay afloat.

The cash-strapped Blue Square North outfit are trying to put together a rescue fund of £100,000 after the club's bank refused to provide any additional financial help.

One fan has already made a £50,000 donation, with the club now asking 250 supporters to make a £200 donation each.

The club will then draw one of these names out of the hat during every week of the upcoming season, with the person drawn given their donation back until all 250 supporters have been returned their investment.

Mick Cullerton, a former Stafford Rangers striker, told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's a positive move by the people running the club and I hope they get the response they need."

Stafford Rangers also revealed that low numbers of supporters choosing to buy season tickets and a poor uptake of commercial activities have worsened the club's financial position.

Jon Downing is the club's current chairman, while Chris Brindley is the first-team manager.
