Ronaldo image rights agreement needed

Cristiano Ronaldo's world record move from Manchester United to Real Madrid may not be completed yet as an agreement needs to be reached on his image rights.

An £80 million deal was struck between the pair a week ago which would see the Portuguese forward net £200,000 a week after tax.

However, Real Madrid usually agree that a player also receives half of the money they generate for the club from image rights, but Ronaldo is after a bigger share.

Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes is seeking that the Spanish giants pay the forward 55 per cent of the money he makes from personal football sponsorship and other commercial deals.

Meanwhile, an image rights deal agreed would only include any contacts that Ronaldo signs after joining the club.

This means that the 24-year-old would retain 100 per cent of the revenues for any existing football sponsorship deal that he has, including those with Nike and the Portuguese bank Banco Espiritu Santo.

Ronaldo signed for Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, becoming the club's first ever Portuguese player.
