AFC Wimbledon could be set to return to Plough Lane in a multi-million pound move almost two decades after leaving the ground.
The original Wimbledon team played at Plough Lane in Merton until the end of the 1990/91 season, before it was decided that the ground was beyond redevelopment.
This led to a move to Croydon to play at Selhurst Park, until the team moved to Milton Keynes in 2002 and changed their name to the MK Dons.
However, as preparations get underway for their first season in the Blue Square Premier League, AFC Wimbledon are looking for a new home away from Kingsmeadow in Kingston.
Plans are to develop a 6,000-seater capacity ground called the Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, which would be next door to their original home.
According to the Evening Standard, a member of the Dons Trust, which run the club, said: "Moving back to Merton with a joint development of the Greyhound Stadium would be the ideal solution.
"We have developed a proposition for developing a stadium for us on the site. We have talked to Merton planners throughout the process and they support it in principle."
