Credit crunch has had little impact on demand for Champions League final tickets

The credit crunch has done little to prevent a number of Manchester United fans from finding the money to head to Rome to watch their team in the UEFA Champions League final, it has been stated.

Some 67,000 tickets have been made available for the clash between Alex Ferguson's side and Barcelona, with each club allocated 20,000 seats at the Stadio Olimpico.

A further 10,000 tickets were made available to neutral supporters in March, with the remainder going to the commercial football sponsors and European football federations.

Yet, despite the troubled financial climate, a large number of fans from both clubs have found the money to be a part of the event.

Speaking to Reuters, Mark Roberts, senior consultant in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, said: "This is the pinnacle of football for European clubs. Fans see it as a one-off situation, they have saved to go to this kind of event.

"They will continue to spend as if nothing was happening in the economic climate."

Manchester United will be looking to emulate some of the greatest teams in the past by becoming the latest side to successfully defend the crown, after they beat Chelsea on penalties in the final last year.
